JOB POSTING: FARM COORDINATOR, BELL FARM

  • Location: Bell, CA

  • Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

  • Schedule: Approximately 25 hours per week, generally Monday–Friday 5 hours per day, rotating shifts, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with occasional Saturdays.

  • Compensation: $24/hour

  • Benefits: Accrued PTO and Paid Sick Leave

  • Reports To: Director of Farm Operations and Bell Farm Manager

ABOUT GROWGOOD

GrowGood is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit employment social enterprise (ESE) that uses regenerative urban agriculture to create opportunities for individuals facing barriers to employment while increasing access to fresh, healthy food in underserved communities. Since 2011, GrowGood has transformed a vacant lot in the City of Bell into a thriving 1.5-acre urban farm. Today, the Bell Farm serves as a source of fresh produce, community connection, workforce development, and environmental stewardship. Through our farms and food distribution programs, GrowGood helps provide fresh produce to more than 1,500 food-insecure individuals each week across Los Angeles.

POSITION SUMMARY

GrowGood is seeking a motivated, hands-on Farm Coordinator to support daily operations at our Bell Farm. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is passionate about gardening, farming, food systems, and community engagement, and is eager to learn. The Farm Coordinator will help maintain farm operations, support volunteer events, assist with food production activities, and help ensure the farm remains a safe, welcoming, and productive space for staff, volunteers, visitors, and community partners. While prior farm experience is not required, candidates should have a strong interest in agriculture and a willingness to learn.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support daily farm operations, including planting, harvesting, irrigation, weeding, pruning, composting, and general farm maintenance.

  • Assist with produce harvesting, washing, packing, and distribution activities.

  • Follow established crop plans and growing practices under the direction of the Director of Farm Operations and Bell Farm Manager.

  • Help maintain farm infrastructure, tools, equipment, and growing areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.

  • Support community volunteer days, corporate volunteer events, educational programs, and other farm-based activities.

  • Provide a welcoming and positive experience for volunteers, visitors, and community members while helping ensure their safety on site.

  • Maintain accurate records, including harvest data and other operational documentation as assigned.

  • Assist with transportation of produce, supplies, tools, and materials between GrowGood sites and partner locations using GrowGood vehicles.

  • Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding project progress, site needs, and any issues that arise.

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures and contribute to a safe working environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors.

  • Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for gardening, farming, food growing, environmental stewardship, or community-based work.

  • Minimum 1–2 years of work experience in any field.

  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Comfortable working with volunteers, community members, and partner organizations.

  • Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to drive GrowGood vehicles, including a small transit van.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a dynamic environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in farming, gardening, landscaping, nursery work, outdoor education, conservation, construction, or other hands-on outdoor work.

  • Experience working with volunteers, community groups, or public-facing programs.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Familiarity with sustainable agriculture, regenerative farming, or local food systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, squat, and perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, sun, wind, and light rain.

  • Ability to safely operate farm tools and equipment following training.

  • Ability to participate in physically demanding farm activities throughout the workday.
